Casualty (4)

Casualty (4)

We bought our timeshare in the early '90s. We had an annual and a biennial. We had a lot of great vacations and fun times with friends over the years until the resort was taken over by Northmont.

Like everyone else, we were shocked to find under this new management we were being charged a fee for a timeshare we owned regardless of whether we stayed or chose to leave the resort at this time.

In hindsight it is all a bit of a blur. After several law firms got involved and we were able to form a group with like minded people to fight this blatant “scam” - around 1,500. We were directed eventually to the law firm of Geldert Law. That is when this downhill slide began. Gross incompetence, inexperience, complete lack of communication to our group and “behind door” meetings on behalf of all 1,500 of us has resulted in this criminal predicament we have been placed in. The evidence was there. Not to mention our persecutor is a Master of deception with a highly disreputable reputation and has his game down pat. Another known fact, and the trail of destruction is well publicized.

The courts have ruled. Our lawyer has failed us miserably and in my mind completely misrepresented our group leaving us with his carnage to clean up.

Our bill is more than three times what we paid to purchase back in the early 90's. It's in the ten (10's) of thousands of dollars. We have been denied access to the timeshare since 2013 but charged continued high maintenance fees with a 26.8% interest rate!!!

How is that even possible???

We are retired as is a large number of this group. We live off a pension and have limited savings. A withdrawal will cost us an additional 30% in taxes.

We all received this “excellent settlement” as it was termed right before Christmas leaving us with a minimal time to come up with funds, no access to resources over the holiday period and a need to hire our own lawyer for interpretation of this document.

We have had so many sleepless nights, been consumed with worry affecting our relationships, our health and our bank account. How are we suppose to recover this at our age? (In our twilight years)

I am consumed with having to become educated in a way I never would have anticipated. Our group has been a strength to us and are doing the job that we paid a lawyer for.

How can this be??? I am worried about my husband's health. A man who worked hard all his life is now broken by this and we have no words of comfort for each other. What can we do??

This is adversely affecting our daily lives. The betrayal of the systems we appointed to protect us have completely failed us and that is the hardest blow of all. Everyone in authority passes the responsibility on to someone else. We are completely alone in this fighting for what is right. No one wants to hear.

We have a family member fighting cancer right now and my time needs to be spent there, not pouring over documents trying to understand where this went so terribly wrong.

This whole fiasco is beyond common sense and comprehension!! How could such an obvious scam be supported by our Justice system leaving us with absolutely no recourse.

When I read the terms set by our legal counsel I feel as if we are being blackmailed, bullied, our hands tied and our voices muted as a gag order was included as well.

Shocking that no Government body, person or official can do anything to help us. Even the RCMP have turned their backs. We have seen how the judicial system has proven totally inadequate and the public at large are at the mercy of this.

Something has to change immediately, someone in a position to hear us has to take responsibility. The laws are definitely not in favour of the backbone of this country.
